This summer we were visited by a great many hummingbirds. At times there would be dozens hitting up our three feeders, a big increase from last year when we saw maybe twenty over the whole summer. Beautiful, shiny, territorial little shits whizzing by our heads, tracing huge swooping parabolas through the air as they courted one another. We saw mostly Broad-tailed and Black-chinned but did also spy a handful of Rufous as they made their 2000 mile journey from Canada to Mexico.
